The Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States (Equitable) is one of the nation's premier providers of life insurance, annuities, and other needs-based products and services for the rapidly expanding financial services market. Equitable has approximately $400 billion in assets under management and maintains a network of over 8000 agents in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

Cedar Technology has provide development and support services for Equitable since 1992.

Equitable operates a centralized Agent Hiring department in Atlanta, Georgia to handle the licensing of all their agents with the NASD. The company maintained a mainframe-based database of agent information and discovered that information on the current license status of many agents was not updated on the system leading to data inaccuracy. Cedar Technology Associates was hired to do the following and successfully completed all as follows:

• Create a system to extract accurate data from the NASD WEB site and produce reports of any discrepancies with the company’s internal data.

• Create a WEB based system to enable agents to manage and renew their own mutual fund licenses This system includes:

  • A WEB site for agents to manage their license requests.

  • Client server software written in C++ for the hiring department to process agents requests.

  • Direct communication with the NASD WEB site drastically reducing the amount of data that must be entered by hiring personnel.
